Provenance Wines - Wadawurrung Country - Fyansford, Vic ~ Accessibility Review

Provenance wines is disability inclusive and a beautiful experience

OVERVIEW

Award-winning cellar door and restaurant, Provenance Wines, is refreshingly accessible and has a really comfy ambience, enhanced by great customer service and food. Located at the old Paper Mills along the banks of the Barwon River the building has wide doors, is spacious and flat and includes a very comfortably appointed accessible toilet.

The terrain of the Paper Mills is understandably steep in some parts, but a lot of the area, especially the path to Provenance wines has smooth paths with comfortable gradients for a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

WEBSITE | BOOKING:

WHAT WORKED:

  • No intermediate booking site used.

  • Easy step-by-step process including choosing from a comprehensive list of dietary requirements.

  • There is a notes section to request any accessibility requirements.

  • Confirmation is quick and professional.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

  • No mention at all on their website of their accessibility features*

WHAT’S INSIDE:

WHAT WORKED:

  • Wide step-free entry through a lovely wide foyer

  • Huge concrete main dining area with two function rooms off to the end.

  • One function room has a 2 cm lip over the threshold

  • Choice of high tables - which suit me better as I can raise my power chair for easier dining access, traditional dining tables.

  • Easily accessed large bathroom through wide doorways and hallway.

  • Helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating staff.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK :

  • Nothing

ACCESS TO VENUE | PARKING:

  • There is one accessible car park outside the entrance next to the front door.

  • Parking is also available at the top of the Mills with smooth and inclined paths. However, I haven't been at night so I don't know how lit that route would be.

SUMMARY:

I thoroughly recommend Provenance wines for a special inclusive dining experience weather in a large group, a couple or an event.

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE:

I look at the ways in which businesses present an overall inclusive experience for their patrons. While I focus on mobility access, I hope to get ideas from you and others to add observations relating to other disabilities. I take a comprehensive look at everything from initial website experience to staff attitudes. I do not comment on food (except sometimes if it’s super fab I might not be able to help myself) as you can have the joy of making up your own mind on that. Finally, and importantly, I advise you to research to suit your individual needs, but I hope this is a good start.

Happy accessible living and playing !

*People with disability, their families and friends can search for venues much easier if there is a description of the accessibility features either in a separate tab or integrated into the description. Images of parking areas, door thresholds, seating areas and bathrooms provide informed decision making and reduce the stress that accompanies many social outings for people with a disability.
