Claribeaux on the Bellarine – Wadawurrung Country –Curlewis, Vic ~Accessibility Review

wheelchair Inclusive Dining on the links

The Bellarine Peninsula is a naturally beautiful part of the world and the owners of Claribeaux on the Bellarine have created their own pocket of wheelchair-inclusive beauty within it. The restaurant is housed within a very handsome architecturally designed building reminiscent of a 1950s country club, with a stunning stacked stone-block façade and majestic outside entry. It is also occupied by the reception for the adjoining accommodation and the casual Spike Bar.

We've dined at Claribeaux a few times and enjoy reasonably priced good food, a cosy fireplace and appealing views of the resident golf course through ginormous windows.

WEBSITE | BOOKING:

WHAT WORKED:

  • Quick and simple online process.

  • On the frequently asked questions tab they do state ‘there are dedicated accessible parking spaces, entry and bathrooms ’.

  •  The option to provide further comments on booking.

  •  Option to call.

ACCESS TO VENUE | PARKING:

A wide and large driveway extends to a large car parking area. There are two speed bumps and we have only counted two accessible parking bays which is not enough for the size car park.

WHAT’S INSIDE:

Wide automatic sliding doors entering a wide hallway. To the left of the hallway is the restaurant and to right is the spike bar and accessible toilets with a lovely plant atrium opposite the toilet door.

WHAT WORKED:

  • Fully automatic sliding entry doors.

  • Space into the restaurant and around the table.

  • Helpful friendly stuff.

  • Large accessible deck area off the restaurant.

  • Pristine large accessible bathroom including a shower, roll under basin, contrasting blue toilet seat and a small change table which sits neatly behind the door and away from the toilet area.

 WHAT DIDN’T WORK :

  • The space under the table wasn't quite high enough for me but it was a better table than most and would work for others in lower wheelchairs.

  • The door to the accessible bathroom is not automatic, rather, traditional handle and turn lock.

SUMMARY:

I recommend Claribeaux on the Bellarine as a comfortable, picturesque and accessible dining experience.

Happy accessible living and playing,

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE:

I look at how accommodation providers present an overall inclusive experience for their quests. While I focus on mobility access, I hope to get ideas from you and others to add observations relating to other disabilities. I take a comprehensive look at everything from initial website experience to staff attitudes, as well as the structural elements. All door measurements are the workable door width, considering the edge of the door or other obstacles intruding into the threshold. Finally, and importantly, I advise you to research to suit your individual needs but I hope this is a good start.
